Continuum speech-language pathologists assess clients who have encountered difficulties with communication or swallowing following an injury or accident. Evaluation includes the identification of cognitive deficits or impairments in memory that may affect communication and functional independence. Assessment for augmentative communication devices or referral for further diagnostic investigations involving videofluoroscopy, ear/nose/throat consults, or neurological consults may also occur.
